my wife and i have been searching for a flatcoat puppy, preferably a black bitch, for a gun dog on our 120 acre farm in Essex.  We have had no luck in obtaining a puppy as they all seem to be sold before they are even born!  We have had flatcoats in the past, but the breeder that we have had dogs from in the past no longer breeds.  Any correspondance would be very appreciated.

I would reccomend you contact Shirley Johnson who is the litter register secretary of the Flatcoated Retriever Society. Mrs Johnson knows of all the litters with pups for sale in the UK. She and her husband Peter, (recently retired as Field Trial Secretary for the Flatcoated Retriever Society) have a wealth of knowledge on the breed and have kept working dogs for many many years. Infact you might also try contacting Becky Johnson on downstream@ukonline.co.uk, as she is now the Field Trial Secretary for the Flatcoated Retriever Society. The Johnsons are members of Champdogs too. I am sure they would be very helpful to you in your search for a working flatcoated retriever.

The phone number is on the Society website that is a public web site, so perhaps it is a dedicated line?

The number is on the FCRS Website.  It is a well known number - the only problem is getting through to it - it is constantly engaged!!!
