A firend of mine asked about his 2 year old dog who has lost the pigment in his solid liver dogs nose. Dog is otherwise healthy and his litter sister who they own is also fine. His vet is considering a biopsy??? has anyone else come across this and any idea of cause or treatment if any?
Cheers
Sue
There is a condition called butterfly or winter nose when the nose loses pigment - which is not a problem apart from the way the dog looks - ie its not harmful and sometimes is worse in the winter when the dog has been indoors a lot and then improves when exposed to spring/summer sunshine. Best to get it checked out with the vet though. Feeding a seaweed supplement can help sometimes, like SA37.

Try elderberry and nettle from Dorwest Herbs or Keepers Mix/kelp tablets.

Thanks. I have suggested the kelp to his owner. Just concerned about the biopsy thing. Vet considering it to rule out a skin cancer but it may be vitiligo. The dog is also getting some white hairs round his nose. :)
my pom x has had a pink nose since she was born i am always worried that skin cancer or something could develop but she is 8 next week and thank god nothing has developed
