Is today the official start of the silly season? First, this morning, a dog in for grooming, whose owners told me that the previous groomer had forbidden them from feeding him for 24 hours before his appointment! (In case he poohed in the dryer :( ) Second, phone call from family friends who have a puppy - can I please give advise on how to dry it after a bath? He has had to be bathed 3 times in the last 2 weeks, as he keeps jumping into the garden pond (this is drained but has green slime at the bottom)
the were worried that puppy shivered after bath until dry (not surprislingly) so hubby was sitting in airing cupboard with pup till it dried through! (hairdryers not invented yet then?) Then finally, an elderly couple with their 50th wedding anniversay present from the family - a surprise Springer Spaniel pup! These people had an old, small quiet bitch they lost 2 years ago, and had decided that at their time of life a new dog wasnt fair on them or the dog. Since then they have enjoyed long weekends away and new hobbies, missing their old firend but not looking for another - but of course the family knows best. Dont know if I should laugh or cry!
bye
Gwen

It's the silly season Gwen.
Outside my butchers today there was a man and his dog a Lab, I went into the butchers and inside was a lady who was getting the butcher to hold up meat so the dog could see it through the window :) because she didn't know if he wanted "Lamb, Beef, Chicken" or ehat tonight :) he apparently barks when he sees what he wants. He hadn't barked when I left though so I imagine they are still there. or maybe he fanicied "Italian" instead. ;)
Silly season - I shoudl say so.
Karen
If my dogs thought barking would get them what they wanted from the butchers wouldn't stop barking! (though they much prefer a chinese ;) )

It gets sillier I read a letter in a dog newspaper and apparantly if you leave a window open for your dog now your car isnt insured. :(
Also I have lost count of families who ring me when their elderly parents dogs ,die and insist they will want a puppy ,I politely give them my advice but it is rarely taken, then surprise surprise in a few months further we more often than not are asked to rehome the dog cos Mummy and daddy cant cope.

The image I got of someone sitting in the airing cupboard with a wet puppy made me lol. Thanks for cheering me up! :D
Me to, did they empty the shelf so that he could sit on it like a gnome. :-)

I wish I knew, unfortunatley I was trying so hard not to laugh out loud that I couldnt really ask too many questions :) !!! I just hope thay have a big Airing Cupboard! And I still wonder why they didnt just clear the slime out of the pond (or cover it) after the first time the puppy got covered in it?

Gwen,
"the were worried that puppy shivered after bath until dry (not surprislingly) so hubby was sitting in airing cupboard with pup till it dried through! "
Silly perhaps, but I found this rather touching. Every puppy should be loved and cared for so much that some fool adult would sit in a warm airing cupboard with it until its coat dried after a bath. :-)

Oh I infinitely prefer their approach to the folk who just let a dog sit and shiver! I jsut can understand why they didnt get the hairdryer out! They do adore this little dog, just have not got a clue. Still, they are learning, and are prepared to ask questions.

What they want is a telephone extension in the "airing cupboard" then :)
Maybe the owners were skinheads....no drier :) LOL
