My 9 week old Irish Setter pup has had the runs for a couple of days now.  I successfully changed him over to Burns from Beta with no problems and I have started adding small bits of raw food (AMP ?) in with his burns and the other night he had his first chicken wing.  He also has biscrock biscuits and Burns biscuits in his kong when I leave him.  Am I over loading him ? should I go back to just burns?

On another note, he has started really scratching I have front lined him but he still scratches his belly alot and if you tickle his sides he goes mad scratching, he also nibbles his legs alot.  Could this be an allergy ? im wondering if he is allergic to grass because he never had access to grass with his breeder ? should I take him to the vets ?

Hmmm, he is very small to be bombarding him with so much different nosh IMHO.  Why not go back to burns; puppies take time to settle down with a change of food and a change of water and a new household etc and so they need few other changes in their lives.

I would leave out the raw food/chicken wings and biscrock for now and see how he goes.

Your dog may be reacting to a number of different things, have you washed his blanket in biological powder or used fabric conditioner?  Are you using carpet freshener such as ShakeNVac?............................

I thought as much, ill stick him back onto just burns for now - problem is his "grandparents" keep popping over with new treats for him - ill have to stash them in the cupboard until he is older - although they will probably end up at the dogs home because I always said I didnt want him to have any proper "dog" treats other than the burns biscuits. I wanted to give him more natural stuff ;)

I dont use anything on my carpets and all his blankets and vetbed are new, I might give them a wash and see if thats what the problem is, I really hope it isnt grass - I live in the middle of the country surrounded by fields of barley and wheat :rolleyes:

There are some rape fields around the village but not close to me.  I thought of mites from the corn fields but the cats practically live in them and they are fine.  I suppose it will just be a process of elimination, apart from the scratching he seems ok, he isnt red or anything (apart from his coat colour of course ;)  )

I had the same problem recently with my Gordon Setter, who is fed only on Burns, with the occasional treat - I contacted Burns nutritionists and they suggested it was probably caused by overfeeding, apparently its because of the build up in toxins in their system, and it causes them to scratch, chew at their feet, vomit bile in the night - I dropped his quantities and literally all the symptoms disappeared overnight!! I too would suggest drop everything except his food, and I'll bet your pup will be fine!!

Im going to try just feeding him burns and also cutting back a bit on the amount.  I am also going to wash all his blankets and vet bed.

my nine week old pup has successfully changed over to burns from euk. and i have found that she eats all she's given and still looks for more. I use puffed jerky for training but find that she is still hunting in her bowl for more food. I took this (niavely) as a sign that she enjoyed it more than euk(which she regularly left some of) so sometimes i give her a little more. Question is could i be doing her more harm than good?
Also when do you drop from four meals to three, as at the moment she eats very well at 7ish, 12ish, 5ish but she is not always interested in her 9 oclock meal, could i give her more in the other meals and just give her a little for supper?
She seems to sleep from 7pm  onwards, is crated at 10.30 and wakes me up at 6-7oclock so i feel that no supper is a long time for her to go without food.
Sorry for long questions i keep thinking of more things to add as im typing ;-)

My pup is always going back to his bowl to check to see if it has re-filled itself - I take that as him just being greedy :p  You are supposed to cut down to three meals at 3 months of age (I think) but if you feel she doesnt want her evening meal I dont see the harm in cutting that out.  What sort of pup is she ? whats her name? mine is called Fagan :)

a red and white boxer bitch called chilli - or mud monster for short as she takes great delight in pulling up clods of grass and soil and tucking in for a good feast :-)

Fagan is a bit of a gardener, he prefers just to take bites out of all the different plants (or should I say weeds :rolleyes: )

not enough plants in our gargen at the moment so she just lays under the forest flame plant has has chewed all but three branches off. Bit of a waste really cos once she's detatched it she just tosses it to one side and walks away. :-D

Watch biscrox..they contain wheat I think? some dogs are allergic to wheat :-) Love the name Fagan!!
I feed Burns it is very good,have yout tried their Fishbites (smelly) and Kelties instead of Biscrox?

He has kelties and also those pro-train 100% fish treats :)  the biscrocks were a pressie from his "nan" ill have to lose them ;)
