Hi I have just spent £700 with a local breeder to have my baby (Rosie) put to but with no success I am loathe to spend this sort of money again but would welcome any advice she is our second Saint and this was our first breeding attempt.

It is usual to offer a free return if the bitch misses.  It would be worth spending the extra money on havng premate tests done on your girls next time, which will better pin point optimum mating time.  The vast majority of missed pregnancies are down to wrong timing.

Hi, I agree with Brainless that a free return is often offered if the first attempt is unsuccesful, but this is the sort of details which should be discussed and agreed (preferably in writing) at the time of arranging the dogs services.  You should first try approaching the dogs owner, and ask if a free return is allowed.  And then, as advised above, on your next attempt consult your vet and have Premate testing done to confirm the time of ovulation/optimum mating days.  However, if the breeders terms are payment upfront, only 1 service, you simply have to pay up again next time, with either this or another dog.
bye

It is normal for the stud owner to let you have a second mating free of charge. I had a contract stating if the bitch didnt take then the second mating was free, this is standard!!! Also, the other comments are right, a missed mating is usually a result of wrong timing. A draminski ovulation detector is great, it acurately lets you know the exact date for mating to achieve optimum results. Hope this helps.
