Topic Other Boards / Foo / I passed!!!!

I passed my driving test yesterday!!!  It was 2nd time lucky and I'm so pleased!!!  Considering that on Friday I had decided to not bother doing it as I thought I was hopeless - even up to my lesson on Monday I told my instructor that I wasn't going to bother and he talked me round.

So pleased that he did - just got to get a car now!!!

Yaaaaay!!!!!!

Congratulations! :D
Any idea what car you are going to get?
I'm on the look out for a new car at the moment, quite fancy a Ford Ka, I think they're cute :)

Not quite sure yet.  We tried for a loan yesterday but unfortunately got turned down for it which means that we're going to have to try and get one on finance.

Think we'll go and have a look at the local dealers at the weekend!!

I learned in a Peugot 206 and quite liked that so thats a possibility if we get finance approved!!

Oh its times like these when I wish I hadn't been wild and reckless at 18 - leaving myself with a diabolical credit history!!  Even though I now earn good money etc etc my past credit history still manages to mess things up!!

That's something my Mum has always nagged me about and now I'm grateful I listened!
I can only afford a second hand car, but I was looking on the autotrader website and you can pick up a 51 reg Ka for about £4000, which I thought was pretty good.  By Christmas, I might be able to afford one!
I like 206's too, think they look great.  I learnt in a 306 and that's what I've got now :)
Would love one of the new Mini's but the day that I can afford one is a long, long, long way away! :D

Mums are so wise - I wish I'd listened to mine now!!  Infact I now nag all of my friends who start talking about getting credit cards etc etc - I tell them to look at me as an example of how NOT to spend!!!

Thank you all again!!  I know what you mean Pauly - its a brilliant feeling!!  Even though I haven't got a car yet just the thought of knowing that I COULD get one is enough to get me excited!!  We're going to go and have a look at some local dealers at the weekend and hope that we can get something on finance!!

Glazby is going to love it - means I can also look at taking him to obedience classes now - they were too far away to get to if you don't drive!!

Can anyone help me?  I've been looking in the paper at finance place and there are some that say If you can't get credit, have bad credit history etc etc that they can help you.  My question is do you know if these places still do credit checks on you?

Don't want to turn up at one and they say that they're going to do a credit check - I can prove my earnings etc etc but don't want to go through a check!!

Any ideas??

Otherwise I've just seen a little J reg (is that really old?) Peugot in the paper for £300 that I could afford now, may go and have a look at that!!

Charanda
some of these finance companies that accept people with bad credit history charge EXTORTIONATE amounts of interest- just something to be aware of.
Also try and take a friend along with you when looking at a car ( if you have one thats knows anything about cars that is).
I've had older cars that have been great and newer ones thast have been no so great - its all the luck of the draw really
Good luck :)

Ps when looking for a car always consider how much future parts are going to be . It might be an older car but the parts may cost an arm and a leg. Fords and Vauxhalls are usually pretty cheap not too sure on peugeout
