Hello. We have a 7-month old, female schipperke who is shedding "like crazy." I was under the impression that schipperke's shed minimally. Please advise. Thank you.

According to
this site it says under 'Care and training' that profuse shedding takes place seasonally.

The Schipperke is one of the Spitz breeds which nearly all have thick double coats & shed with abandon!!
You should go for a dog such as a westie, cairn, yorkie in fact anything that needs to be trimmed. They don't moult (I don't think). Whippets moult twice a year but don't shed a lot. Maybe you could go with a very shorthaired breed.

Bit late really, the poster has a schipperke and hopefully they will learn to live with it. After all it is not the dogs fault that it looses hair, all spitz lose hair and it should not come as a surprise to anyone who did their homework.
sorry I replied to the wrong post by mistake Jackie, should been on the other one about casting hair.

OK Harriet, you were not the real cause of my irritation ;)

I must admit when people admire my dogs coats and then ask if they moult, I do wonder what planet they are from???
Most dogs moult, even some of the trimed breeds loose some hair.
