Hiya, We are looking to get a dog at the end of the year and can not decide between a Spaniel and a Labrador.  I would like one that does not cast any hair and also he must also be a child friendly dog.

Any suggestions would be great.

Hi, I am afraid that you non-casting requirement would rule out labradors and all spaniel breeds!

Labradors and spaniels are off your list then! They moult like mad!

I would suggest you consider on of the wire-haired terrier breeds, or a woolly-coated breed such as a poodle.

I can recommend whippets, they are shorthaired and do moult but it's very minimal. They have lovely placid temperaments and are great with kids. My friend has a cairn terrier that she says doesn't moult, he has to be clipped every so often.
