Just wondering if any of you have any good ideas for making your dog smell nice without resorting to daily baths. I don't want to spend a fortune on fancy smellies either. Thanks  PS the dogs in question are a lurcher and an Irish Wolfhound

What do they smell of?

Its just a good old doggy smell but its got a bit overpowering. The kind of smell dogs make when they get wet.

It is possible that the dog has a yeast growth on the skin, some dogs do have a slight odour but it should not be offensive. Have a word with the vet, bathing could be making it worse.

Thanks for the reply but I don't think the problem is a yeast infection its just a general smell, skin and coat OK I guess its probably just the dogs version of BO.

Hi Kel,
I bought a 'zilo smell killer' from qvc which uses ionic things to stop stuff smelling.  I can't remember the science behind it but it stops smell molecules from attaching to each other so the smells can't start.  Its a metal alloy and if you leave it in a saucer of water it deodorizes a room (e.g. smoke or cooking smells) and there is one on a hook for putting in the toilet.  If you wet it and rub it over your dog it stops the dog smelling and really gets rid of the wet dog smell.  It is a piece of metal and needs water to make it work and when they show it on tv the promotor suggests using the toilet one for dogs because its got a handle and it is just like getting stroked/groomed for the dog.  I just use the normal one and its great, it gets rid of smells off furniture etc too and uses no chemicals coz its just a piece of metal - magic!  Hope this is useful for you.

Hope you are right Kel, but a healthy IWH should not smell so bad that you feel the need to bath him every day, please speak to your vet.
