Topic Dog Boards / General / performance food ok?
- By labmad [gb] Date 25.05.04 14:07 UTC
I am currently feeding my lab lamb & rice eukanuba for adults but he has started to do a lot of obedience training and does working trials once a week.  Basically, I wonder whether the performance food would be better suited to his activity level.

He does ob training 3 times a week goes for approx 2-3 walks a day and does trials for about 2-3 hours once a week.  He also does ob shows most weekends.

What do you think?

Cheers all xx

I'm not an expert but I think you should stick with what you're giving him so he doesn't get fat... unless he's weak or lacking energy

Performance food is mostly just a higher kalorie version of regular food.  There is no reason to use it unless your dog is too thin and does not want to eat sufficient volume of food to put weight on.

If you think your lab still has enough energy then no, you don't need to feed him performance. If you see a change in his behaviour ie sleeping more, running about less, then perhaps think about changing it. What protein level is he currently on?
