I have a 9 yer old staffie bitch whom I have had about 4 weeks......i have changed her on to nature diet....she was on pedigree chum when I got her from the rescue.....

I have been to see a ADPT? trainer for some help with her doggie aggression and she asked what I was feeding her and when I told her she says i need to ask kibble or biscuit to her meals.....i thought nature diet was complete food....

I give my dog pigs ears (1 a day) and also bones and the occasion treat....please advise

Naturediet is a complete dog food to which no additives are necessary.

A trainer registered with the APDT is not necessarily an expert in nutrition; did she explain WHY she felt the addition of biscuits etc was necessary and on what information this opinion was based?

Personally I would not feed pigs ears as they are fried and so somewhat less than healthy for my dog but that is a personal choice.

It IS a complete food, you need add nothing else.  Good luck with the training.

The trainer said that Sky ( my wee dog) should have texture and that good dogestive system was important...i thought that myself hence i changed her on to nature diet!

What kinds of evening treat do you give them.....I have not had a dog for years and when i lived at home my dad gave the GSD that we had sheeps heads and they went mad for them...she is not a big dog

My dogs are fed twice a day in order to minimise the risk of GDV and to break up their day; a sheep's or pigs head to them is a meal as I feed raw :D

Small dogs can cope with most things eventually :D

A good digestive system is indeed important hence why I particularly avoid kibble and any kind of dog biscuit which contains cereal which dogs are not designed to process.

Your trainer may indeed be very effective in dog training which is in fact the area in which she has been "employed" to advise but not necessarily completely au fait with nutrition.

Thanks Tohme,

You kinda said what I thought!.......might try chicken necks or something similiar and see the butcher at the weekend so see what kind of special treats they can rake up....might even try a head !

I wonder what my wee dog will think of that!....i have been informed by the rescue society that the poor wee soul had been fed on boiled ham and human food and left overs for god nows how long and that she has been on Metacalm? for a long long time....she has not had either of those things for 6 weeks and my Vet said that they have done a proper check up and that she is in pretty good shape although they cannot be definate about her age they say anything from 6-9......so hey she might be here longer that we thought:)
