IF you had a big litter and IF you wanted to wean at 2 weeks cos Mum was struggling, what is best way to go about it. When I have had a litter in the past I weaned at 3 weeks but wondered if there was a problem in starting them a bit early.

Hi there!

I started weaning my litter at 2 weeks on the advice of the vet.  I posted on here asking how best to go about it and was told to do the same as you would do at 3 weeks - they took to it fine and are now 4 weeks and eating the food no bother!  Mum's milk is starting to dry up and she's actually now refusing to feed them at all.

The earliest I have started weaning (tiny amount of soaked puppy food mashed with puppy milk) was at 12 days old, as soon as eyes were open.  the pups weight gain had slowed and they were obviously interested in Mums food that she was geting inthe whelping box.  With my last litter it was a struggle to get them interested in solids much before 4 weeks!

We just had a litter of 10, this is the first time I had used the Pedigree puppy porridge, and it was great no problems getting any of them away with it and it can be used from 2 weeks of age
