Can being in season cause diarrhoea? My golden retriever is on day 12 and seems perfectly happy in herself, but she has had the runs 5 times today, pure liquid. She went twice within 15 minutes this morning, (and mum thinks she had it at 7.30 this morning, but wasn't certain as she was in the bushes!) but didn't go for the rest of the day, so (stupidly) i relented at 6.30 and gave her a little scrambled egg and rice because she was acting like she was starving. but she then went straight out and went again, and then went at 10pm tonight, still liquid. I intend to starve her tomorrow and make sure there is plenty of water but i was wondering what caused it. I feed burns with some lefovers sometimes (veggies ond a little pasta last night), on the advice of the manufacturers of burns as she is a little underweight, and in the last couple of days i have started adding a little burns canine extra to her usual meal, (also on their reccommendation), but the amount was so small i can't see that is the cause.

I wouldn't have thought that the canine extra caused the problem, the good thing with Burns is that you can feed the different varieties of theirs and it doesn't do that (usually).

Seasons don't usually cause it either, is it her first season?

Starve her so that her insides can rest, then give her mashed potato and/or rice with some chicken or fish added. Don't add butter or milk to the potato, then gradually introduce the Burns again.  Quite often when the hot weather suddenly starts for some reason this gives them the runs.

Hope this helps and you don't have to get up too many times tonight.

Do you think she may have eaten somthing outside which upset her (or have a 'bit of a bug')...dogs do that all the time when we are not looking.. my neighbours put stuff out for the birds and the birds drop bits in the garden and my dog ends up with it.  I also would only give a little water for a while..then the same food as yappy again a little at a time rice/WHITE fish not oily/chicken,mash. With Burns I do feed a litte more than they recommend because I think each dog has different needs ..different amounts of excersise.. :-)

If she is going that often, I would put hydrating salt in water. you can get these from pet shop or vet.
