Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Advice needed!!!!!!

Hi, we are looking to go into breeding 'properly' and could do with some advice, particularly from staffy breeders but anything will help!!!
We are looking to buy two more staffies and are unsure whether to go for two from the same litter or different litters, or whether to go for two bitches or opposite sexes! Obviously we'll be going for KC reg. pups. We already have two bitches who get on most of the time! Do you recommend seperate kennels for each dog or putting them together?
Also what standards apply to the structure of kennels? My local council have told me they need to be upto standard but have not defined it!
Do you need to show to be successful?
Any advice gratefully received.

Hiya, ask your council to send you info on standard requirements. My council said NO WOOD CONSRTUCTION ALLOWED! Each breeding bitch should have own kennel, but all councils have slightly different requirements.

Unfortunatley, each Local Authorities Enviormental Health Department is allowed to make up its own rules, within a loose sort of framework, I know some try to enfore the "model kennel"rerquiremnts, whic were aimed at Boarding Kennels, so not at all approprite for breeding in many ways.  this is where the "no wood" bit come in.  Under the old regulations (when it was based on more than 2 bitches ) I drew up kennel plans and discussed them with the Envromental Dept, and we developed the requirements that way.  Lots of Authorities will have very little knowledge of the needs, and try to short cut the whole thing by pointing you down the Boarding kennel plan route, they dont have  a lot of requirment for this license, so go the route they have most knowledge of.

bye
Gwen
