My bitch had five husky puppies all blk and white and all putting on weight very well i have checked for back dew claws but ther e doesnt seem to be any, i was wondering when to take them to the vets for a check as i do have the B.O.T.B but cant find some information that i am looking for. 1) i would like to wean them on a little raw meat at two weeks to help my bitch stay toptip cond. 2) Should the pups (this breed) be so energectic in the bed they are only 4 days and are moving around so much my bitch trys to keep them togetherbut she got a job on her paws! 3) When would be the time to let my bitch take time from the pups would this be when she is ready? i have heard so many stories about how huskies do not make very good mums but my girl is full of surprises, she has so far done it all by herself inc. the birth she is a good mum. But i am protective of her and these pups seem so lively that i not sure how long to leave her with them, at present it is long enough only for her to releive herself. 4) As the warmer days are comming how long does a husky take get to adult body temp. as i am worried about my bitch over heating how long do i leave heaters on.
Hi Guest
Whilst I can't answer the specific Husky questions I can answer your first question.
If your bitch has sufficient milk then it is best for the pups to remain on this as long as possible, if your bitch is in good condition (and she should be) then weaning does not need to start before 3 or 4 weeks. I started weaning my recent litter at three weeks but they did not really start eating solids until five weeks although they chewed at the RMB's I gave them they did not want the minced food.
I entered their Mum in a large open class at an exemption show on Sunday (nearly 10 weeks after whelping) and she came second so she has quickly regained her figure and apparently would have won the class if she had gone up just a little more - she was feeding the pups until over 8 weeks. Sadly she did not do quite so well at her stays in the obedience class which is what I actually went for but it was good practice.

If the pups are well spread out when sleeping then they are warm enough or even too warm - if they are huddled up then they are chilly

Let your bitch come and go as she pleases from the pups - make a barrier that is high enough to keep pups in but low enough for her to easily jump without damaging her undercarriage.
