Hi Sal has kennel cough, we went to the vets last week, Wed (not a good week all in all) the vet gave her two jabs and a course of tablets called Synulox, one twice a day. She is not too bad just an occasional cough more when she gets excited :) in herself she is well and not bothered at all. Eating and drinking well and I have given her a daily dose of VitC too.
She is in season so not allowed out anyhow - the vet said bring her back if she is is not getting better or God forbid - gets worse.
She is well eating and okay how long should she be coughing for?

Hi Karen,
Sorry to hear Sals got KC, but I'm sure she'll recover pretty quickly.
Rio had her cough, off and on for about 3 weeks or slightly longer. But the whole time she had it, she had no other symptoms, she was totally fine in herself. Still eating, drinking, playing etc.
She had a cough 5 days before she went to the vets. She then got an injection, and a couple of days later got a 5 day course of antibiotic's. Her cough seemed to have cleared up for a good few days, so decided she could go out for a walk, straight after the walk, her cough was back. Thje vet seemed to think the infection was gone, but her throat was inflammed, so was put on a 12 day course of steroids, which did the trick.
The best thing for her benefit is not let her get excited (which I no can be difficult) as this irritates the throat causing her to cough more.
Big hugs for Sal.

Michelle.

Hello Mitch.

Thanks for the reply.
Oddly Sal does not seem to cough in the normal run ofthings but excited then coughing starts in earnest for a few second maybe minute or so.

She has a 10 day course of Synulox, if she's no better by Sat I will pop he back p and get them to have another look at her.

Glad Rio got over it.

Again thanks for the reply

Hi,
I also put finely minced raw garlic in their food as this helps and give them vanilla icecream, the kind made with the vanilla bean, (has little black specks in it). Vanilla is good for sore throats and coughs.

Poor Sal - how is she doing now?  I can sympathise with her - when I had bronchitis, which lasted for ever, my mob decided I had kennel cough :D

You can give her benelyn (the non-drowsy one) if her cough is really bad - our vet advised this when we had KC a couple of years ago.
