Flutterby I too am new to this site and have been overwhelmed by all the help I have rec'd (quite demanding staffie owner!!! say no more) it's really nice to come here for idle chat too :D

Trying to search out breeders for new pup - any suggestions/recommendations?? :)

My advice to anyone loking for one of the popular, and sadly exploited breeds, is to always go through one of the breed clubs.  With a breed like staffs there will be a National and several regional ones.

If you have seen adverts for staff pups in thepaper they may be fine, or they may be deealers, or pet owners who have bred to the4 dog around the corner, maybe well loved ,but with little knowledge.  if you run the names past the breed club sec they will be able to tel you if the people are known to the club, and most importantly if they are one of the producers/dealers whose stock ends up in rescue all the time.

If you go to someone who has taken the trouble to join the breed club you have a better chance that they have researched what they are doing, or are experienced and knowledgeable, or working with someone like their own breeder who is, if this is a first littter.

Thanks brainless, we've had 3 other staffs our last we too got from a breeder but have lost contact.
However researching lots on the internet & doggy mags, just thought I'd ask :)
Was your comment referring to non registered breeders exploiting the SBT's?

Hello Jackie,
As usual Brainless is right :) Stafford are over exploited where ever you live there will be a Stafford breed club near to you. Good and I mean Good rather than Average breeders rarely advertise it is word of mouth normally. However Good ones do occasionaly advertise the thing is to pick out the wheat from the shaff.
As you've got three Staffs I assume you know what type you like.
Karen (Bham)
Edited to say your Staffs breeding as on the other post isn mainly B'ham breeding and it would not be difficult to track down similar bred dogs.
