going to get my dogs chipped this year, has any body had any BAD experiences with the chips slipping & moving about?
having had a grass seed go in afoot & come out a shoulder im abit worried that a rouge chip could do some damage!
am i just being a drama queen?

Hi Michelle

I had two dogs chipped on the same day.   One of them is fine and has never moved, but the other one has moved. I was grooming my girl a few weeks after it was put in and noticed a tiny movable lump in her chest area, which after a visit to the vet was confirmed to be her Chip. They offered to remove it and do it again but after checking there was no danger to her we decided to leave it where it was.  It still registers as soon as the scanner goes over her neck and back, and every trip to the vet we ask to have her scanned just to make sure it's still working.  Even though Maddie's chip moved I'll still be getting my 16 week old done as I feel it's really important.

yes i think its important too! im just worried that they could wander inwards & priece a lung or heart??? has this ever happened?

Not had anything like that happen, but it took my vet 3 attempts to get the chip in my dog  but then again this is the same vet that stabbeb me in the hand with scissors when trying to remove stitches from my dog!

I don't imagine this could happen as the chip is injected subcutaneously and it would have to not only migrate to the chest but then "burrow" its way into the chest cavity through muscle and fat.

But hey, strange things do happen! :)

Why not just tattoo them?

I had Carina and Lana done at the same time, Carina's is stil in place and working but don't ask me where Lana's went to, within two weeks it had totally disappeared and nobody's been able to find it.  The makes of the chip couldn't care less and didn't offer any advice!

I've had all of my others done and they've been fine.

HI. The chip that you cant find may not have been injected properly & only have stayed in the coat so when it was scanned after been chipped it was still there, obviously it has now dropped off the coat. Hope that makes sense. Not with it today

I had a dalmatian tattooed at 3 years of age (when her litter was also done) and she didn't flinch or make a sound - in fact she sat there wagging her tail!

I had all my dogs tattooed from 7 weeks to 10 years & no problems, friend of mine opted for the micro chip & the dog had an horrific reaction with a load of fluid around the injection site(had upwards of half a litre removed by the vet at a time)

Turned out she had an allergic reaction to any foreign body put into her skin Had she not noticed the dog would have died She had the microchip removed after the vet had kept her in for three days draining the site three times a day of the half litre of fluid She has been tattooed with no problems

Do whatever you feel happiest with.
I too had a Boxer bitch tattooed at 3 yo, and she didn't even flinch, and this is a bitch that is very funny
about her ears being looked at. So I honestly thought she'd be hell to be tattooed.
Pups: yes did squeal but after 5 mins had forgotton all about it.

A friend of mine had her Boxers chipped and one of hers the chip moved and was removed surgically.
Others I know have never had any problems.

Kind Regards
Kirstine
