Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Introducing new pup to my Westie

We have a 14 month old Westie Bitch, who has have one of the sweetest natures I have every come across and for some time have considered getting another pup as a companion for her.

We now have the chance of a Westie male pup in the next six weeks, but are now wondering if there is a danger of her becoming bullied when the pup gets older, or of her feeling pushed out, as I really cannot see her standing her ground with a dominant dog - we would obviously do everything possible to make sure this does not happen- but she really gets a lot of attention at present, which is going to have to be shared.

We want to do what's right for both dogs, but thought she could have a pal.

Any advice would be appreciated

She will be fine and probably a good age to get a puppy.  Introduce them in the garden etc, let them have their own space also as she may want to play with the puppy a lot and it will need growing rest. She may rough and tumble it a bit but they will be fine.

The odds are that she will be the top dog.

I have westies, and anyone I know that has them , the top dog is generally the bitch. My Male westies gives in for an easy life ;-) just like my OH. :-))

EDITED to add and it goes without saying if your bitch has not been spayed remember dogs can sire from quite a young age. You will need to have one of them spayed.
