We are thinking of breeding with our bitch and dog. The bitch was bought to be compatable with our dog and so long as they pass the vets tests ( hips )ect we will breed. But how do we choose a breeding name?

You have to decide on an Affix and then ask the KC if it is acceptable, you have to give 3 choices. If one is accepted and you pay the fee that will be published and if no one complains the name will be yours. But if this is a one off breeding is it worth going to the trouble of getting one?
Although your dogs lines may be compatible, as they are both maidens you will not know what either will produce and you may do as well to breed the bitch to an experienced stud, who you know produces good quality pups, with good breed type, before attempting to breed in house. Assuming you intend to take more than one litter from her and that will depend on how things go the first time and if you have trouble selling pups or have too many back. Would take advice from both dogs breeders and others either around the show ring or in the field to make sure that now the bitch is adult she is served with the best possible stud for her, which is unlikely to be the dog you own, but even if it is, I would still look outside for her first litter.
You don't say what breed but if we know then we will be able to let you know what tests will be required and when they should be done. The hips are not done till the dogs are at least 12 months (UK) most eyes tests are done once a year and other required tests are only done once, so let us know the breed and if as I have supposed you are in the UK, as test times may differ country to country.
You bought this bitch as a 'Pet' she is endorsed, did you tell her breeder that you were planning to breed from her??

Hi Marion
Is this the 7 month old german shepherd with the umbilical hernia that you are talking about?
If so, I'm afraid that you should not breed with her, however compatible with your dog she is. If you are seriously thinking about breeding, talk, talk, talk to your dogs' breeders, read as much as you can, join whichever breed clubs are relevant to your dog, then look for another bitch, ensuring that you tell the breeder that you do wish to breed, so that any endorsements may be lifted after all the relevant tests are completed satisfactorily.
Enjoy your puppy as your pet for now, and think and learn about the breeding side for later.
Regards
Margot

Definitely do not breed from her if she does have a hernia. I had the same problem with a bitch I bought for breeding, 4 different vets all told me the same thing, DO NOT breed from her as 'most' hernias are inherited!
BUT SHE BOUGHT HER AS A PET ANYWAY,not too breed from, why do you think the breeder endorsed the bitch in the first place
There were nine other bitches in this litter,
if anyone is buying a bitch with the intention of breeding they should be up 'front and honest'
and should also have the knowledge to know if the puppy they are purchasing has a hernia.

Most breeders endorse all the puppies in a litter, I do including my own, as at 8 weks the promising one may turnout not so good or fail it's health tests, and sometimes the one that seemed the pet comes on in leaps and bounds and is worth of being bred from.
