We are hoping to mate our bitch later on this year and have found what we believe is the right stud dog for her but the problem we are now faced with is the wording of contracts that we want all prospective buyers to sign. (We know there is no guarentee of having puppies but we would like to have the contracts in place before we end up running around like idiots which is what we normally do everyday of our lives). We obviously want to be able to take back any of the pups if they are mistreated or can't be looked after anymore by the new owners and even though our bitch is eye-tested and the test shows she is PHPV and HC clear we would like to make sure the future owners would test there stock if they think about using the offspring at stud or to whelp. Is there anything that anyone else thinks we should include into the contracts or has anyone got a template contreact that they use that we could have a look at?

I found these on a breeders' resource site - I think they're probably American in origin but they may be helpful!

http://showdogsupersite.com/kenlclub/k9journal/ppsaleb.html    (pet puppy contract)

http://showdogsupersite.com/kenlclub/k9journal/sscona.html    (stud dog contract)

Hope that it helps!

Have a look at the FAQ's section of this board under Puppy Sales Contracts :)

If you want to email me I will send you a copy of my contract that cover virtually everything.

You can also place endorsements on all the pups as another safeguard and only lift them on proof of good results for the required health checks.

I usually include a separate sheet for the buyer to sign saying that they know there is an endorsement on the registration, because they can apply to have it removed, claiming that they did not know about it.  From the last litter I bred, one recently "came back" because the owners remembered that they had signed a contract saying that they would return the dog if they could no longer keep him, but another I suspect was sold on despite the contract and my attempts to stay in contact, and I have no idea where she is.  I had offered to have her back, but I obviously offended them by pushing for it - we'd even arranged a date for collection, and then they changed their minds.  Maybe she's still there, but I doubt it, and I think of her often.  A third died at twelve months as the result of a tragic accident.  It's a wonder I want another litter!  Must console myself with the thought that there are three others in happy homes...
