Topic Dog Boards / Health / Recurring Cyst

My lab had a cyst removed from between his toes about 6 months ago.  The vet stitched him up and he was fine.  The wound knitted together and he hasn't had a problem but then a few months ago I don't know whether he had knocked the scab but it started to spot blood.  Not yellow or nasty just fresh spots of blood.

Anyway every now and again it seems to scab over and then open up again (not a big wound, only tiny).  He does run around like a lunatic so I am wondering whether there is perhaps just a weakness there because he keeps knocking it or whether this is something that it going to keep reoccuring.

When it does re-open I bathe it in salt water.  Guess I'm just wondering if there is anything else I can do??

Hi Labmad

Have you had it recently checked by your vet?  If you haven't, my advice would be to get vet to give it the once over as if it were one of mine, I would be concerned that it hadn't completely healed after 6 months, albeit even though the raw spot is tiny :)  At best the vet can confirm it is nothing to worry about, or, if further treatment is needed, they can guide you as to what treatment is best.

Hope this helps :)

Could be there is a small low grade infection, see your vet who may give you some antibiotics.
