Hi all
I need help here at the end of my tether my 15 month old lhasa bitch wee's at will when she is exited, i.e when i get home from being out or when she meets people she knows. Not really sure how i can stop her from doing this any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks :)
Not a lot you can do to stop it, but the good news is most grow out of it eventually.
All I can suggest is that you have her greet any visitors outside and keep everything as low key as possible when she comes back inside.
When you come home from an outing don't go over the top making a fuss of her, this might sound a bit heartless but if you ignore her completely until she has settled down (that means no eye contact, no talking) then call her for some gentle calm fuss this may help stop her weeing.
Another thing you could try is do all the things or play all the games that get her excited to the point of weeing outside as much as possible. This weeing could also have something to do with her being submissive, so try to build her confidence a little by playing tug of war and letting her win.

Add to that excellent advice - don't lean over your dog when greeting her, and try and get her to 'sit' and/or offer a paw - it's harder for a dog to wee in this position, and it increases their confidence

Binnie was 10 before she went to rainbow bridge and she never grew out of it. But her owners (OH brother) never tried to correct it. I did think if she were mine i would do this. Come in from work and make no contact what so ever and open back door (or what you have) just in case and wait untill shes calm then gently fuss her not making her excited and praise when she doesnt wee. It will mean having treats in pockets for when you enter house. My thinking is excitement is making wee so eliminating this hopefully will work. Hopefully toilet training wont go out the window here :shocked: but do correct me if this is wrong.

Nanuk is 5 this year and she still wee's with excitement. She was getting a lot better until she was spayed. Now she does it a lot more. If we have visitors, Nanuk bombs up to them and if they make a fuss of her she wee's. We get our visitors to completely ignore her until she has eventually calmed down. When she is calm they stroke her gently and don't make eye contact until she is completely calm and that seems to do the trick. We just make sure she goes to the toilet before she see's visitors. Some dogs may never grow out of it but just try to work around it.

Sorry to butt in...was really interested in you comment about not leaning over your dog while greeting them. Why is this Digger?
(and yes...I'm guilty of doing this

)
Many Thanks

It's a dominance linked move - the more dominant dog tends to lean over the more submissive dog to emphaisis a point if it doesn't appear to be taken by the lower ranking dog - if you do it to your dog while she's already trying her best to show you she knows she's submissive, she's going to wee even more (as well as get confused because you aren't reading her signals correctly)

My lhasa, Barney (3 in Sept), does this but only when I come into the house, not anyone else, and he always brings me a present - ie a toy or his chew to play with :p I have learned to come into the house quickly, open the back door asap and throw his present into the garden. He has a pee after retrieving his toy in the garden then we carry on playing with it. I can put up with the odd dribble now and again LOL
