I have been giving my dogs 500mg garlic capsule everyday for about 5 weeks, however yesterday I noticed one scratching a lot and there it was a flea.
I have now had to spray all of them and the house again.
Why did the garlic not work on my lot it seems to be effective for others.
They were all treated before I started the garlic capsules so I know they were flea free at the start.
Should I give them more than one capsule, are they the right sort, they cost me £8.49p from H&B, I notice others pay less.
What does everyone else give.

Garlic may discourage fleas but will not stop them biting the dog, particularly if you or a neighbour has cats. It is more usual for it to be the cat flea that bites dogs than the canine variety. Trouble is fleas do not live on dog and if hungry will hop on for a feed and should your dog prove too distasteful because of the garlic then they may try you or the kids. Garlic is good for the dogs anyway but you may need to spray the house and if you have them the cats to stop the dogs being bitten.

I agree with JAckie, fleas lay eggs in the carpet and they hatch etc.
You need a flea free environment first, but garlic is not going to kill fleas just make your pet somewhat less attractive to live on! :D
You may also find that commercial garlic is much less effective than feeding a raw crushed clove per day!

I originally bought fresh garlic but none of my dogs would touch their food.
They are fine with garlic capsules.
Am I getting the wrong ones though as they are costing me £8.49 for 200 from H & B. I cant find any cheaper ones.

Have you tried Dorwest garlic and fenugreek tablets? They are on the net.
Can I ask are you using garlic to deter fleas because it is more natural than chemical flea treatments, or because it is cheaper? I only ask because I have two cats and a dog and use Frontline spot on - However, I do not use it monthly as recommended as I noticed I can leave it 3 months (or more), even in the Summer and still have no fleas on any of them! Last treated them in January and still no fleas (and my cats go out alot). I think that's quite a cheap solution. Sorry I can't help on the garlic front :)

I too use garlic for my boys. firstly because it was more natural and yes cost to a certain extent. I only use the 300 mg and so far havent any problems. I do have two cats but have continued to use the frontline on them.

Think that is the answer, the fleas that are found on dogs are more often than not cat fleas so it you kill them at source you are well on the way to winning the battle.
