Hi All,

I have just got a boxer puppy from a local rescue place. He is called Duke and is 7 weeks and is beautiful and very flashy. His breeding is known but his dam was not KC registered (owner couldn't be bothered!) His dad is registered but Duke came through the rescue with no papers.
I know it isn't possible to register him with the KC but was hoping to do some kind of showing with him as we love the whole showing scene. Can anyone tell me what shows there are for unregistered dogs and how I find out about them.
I have joined a boxer club, but am not sure if i'll be accepted with my dog being an unregistered rescue. I would like to go to ringcraft but again feel a little awkward as although my pup looks the part he hasn't got the papers.
I will be doing obedience and maybe a little agility when he is older.
My vet who shows her boxers regularly says he is a lovely example of the breed and that he would have gone far if he was registered. I am just glad he is with me now instead of being raised in a one bedroom flat with 24 dogs in it - 14 of which were puppies - imagine the mess!!!

Blimey

I think you can do exemption shows with an unregistered dog or companion shows - someone correct me if Im wrong :)

No harm in doing ringcraft even if its just for socialisation for pup and to meet other doggy lovers for yourself :)

The previous poster is correct, exemption shows are now called companionship shows and he can be entered there.  I'm sure that you'll have lots of fun with your new pup.

You can do companion shows and you can get a list of them from the kennel club, also you can do obedience, agility, flyball,
if you but the dog papers our dogs and dog world they have companion shows in the back with the breed show section.
About ringcraft i can't see the problem with you going to a ringcraft club at my club i have a white gsd that comes to ringcraft and he is doing well at the companion shows, he also does agility, he was rescued and he has come on in leaps and bounds.
So go for it and have fun

As per the other posters..you can still enjoy showing your dog at exemption or as they are now known as companion
dog shows.
There is nothing to stop you attending any local ringcraft classes to learn more about showing etc.
You mention that you may like to do agility and obedience later.

If you contact the Kennel Club there is a working dog register that you can register your dog with.
Which means that you can take part in any KC licensed agility and obedience competitions if you
so wished when your boy is old enough to compete, if you found that your boy really enjoyed agility or
obedience.
However this does not enable you to KC register any puppies if you breed from dogs that are only
registered with the working dog register. (I hope this makes sense) Only puppies that have both parents
registered (on the full register) may be 'KC registered' by the breeder.

There is also a annual working day that is organised by the British Boxer Club, it's normally held early in September
and is near Derby. Here they have obedience, agility, Boxer racing, flyball etc for all Boxers old enough to take part in.
Great fun if you can make it.

Kind Regards
Kirstine
