Can anyone tell me the best age to hip score a golden retriever? or is there a best age? I understand that it should be at least 12 months?

With my Dobes I get them scored soon after their 1st birthdays - bitches between seasons, dogs when it suits me.

I can't see that Retrievers would be much different?

Hi ,

Sorry forgot to add, for me I personally, wait that extra couple of months especially for males to finish growing  and I definately get them done no later than 18 months.
The other important thing is to find a good vet thats used to doing plenty of scoring before and knows how to correctly position and take good xrays.

I did my lad at 12 months and 2 days, I do wonder whether I did it a bit early, but it's my first time.  Score wasn't brilliant but not too bad and he moves like a dream with no evidence of problems.  Just wonder whether as he is a slow maturer whether I did it too early, but it's done now.
