How Old do pups have to be before eyes are tested. I have never had to do this yet. Pennys hip score was high and I decided not to breed from her, so did not have eyes done.  Emma was was already hip/eye tested when I got her at 4 years old, tests were re-done,and were good, and Megan is 9 and has never been tested as she has Myastinia Gravis and cannot be bred from. What other tests should I have done as I do intend to breed, but not for another couple of years. Both pups are labs.

Hi,
In labs it is not usual to test much before 1 year of age, there after it should be  an annual test. Generally eye testing can be done from the time the puppy is 5 to 6 weeks old as soon as the eye is developed enough for an accurate test result.
Different breeds require different tests as well, each test has an ideal age at which it should be tested. This information is available from the British Veterinary Association who produce booklets on eye testing, elbow displaysia, and hip displaysia.

The youngest I have ever had pups eye tested was the day they were four weeks old but I think the guidelines now say five weeks.
