Hi, is it possible for a 5 months old GSD get leg cramps or any other dog? Today I was sitting in the kitchen and my puppy was laying in the dnining room and I heard her cry a little and I looked and saw her lifting her paw and stretching her neck or something like that, instantly I got worried and went to her to check on her legs and her tummy and she was fine. I asked to walk with me and she was fine, I felt her belly and her front and rear legs and she was still fine. What was that?
Thanks, Alina D.

Anyone?
One of my Whippets had this at 6 months, but then again whippets are prone to this sort of thing. Think the reason it happened was, we'd not long had him and the previous owners hardly took him out to exercise. Think he got more exercise in his first week with us than he'd ever had in his whole life.
It really worried me at the time as he kept suddenly crying out in pain when the cramp set in. What we did was give him a warm bath and a good massage with embrocation and he was right as rain within a couple of days. Hope your dog will be OK and it turns out to be a simple case of cramp and nothing serious. Keep us posted on how she goes.
Hi Alina, my dog has had cramp after a very active day. To relieve it massage as above and make sure the pup drinks enoguh water after exercising. Morse is part greyhound so we asked our friendly retired greyhound trainer what to do and there is stuff you get from the vet to spray on after running. Hes also not been bothered since I started adding cod liver oil to his feed once a day.

Beware that your dog does not OD on CLO, as it contains Vitamins A & D which can be toxic in high doses especially if these are contained in commercial dog food or you feed liver. They are fat soluble and stored in the liver.
FBO is better for this.

Hi everyone. It has been a while since that incident and she has never had anything like that any more. But if I can remember we did play a lot outside during that time so I assume that she got too much running??? She is very active dog and we go outside at least 4-5 times a day for 30 mins each time and she gets to run after her tennis balls or any other toy we bring with.
Oh yeah we changed our vet, again (the old one kept on prescribing us a very expesnive drug without testing her b/c she had runny stools). So they new vet tested her stool and came out she had a giardia and some other bacteria that went out of control (normally all dogs have "that other bacteria", but in small amounts). Finally it is under control and she does not have runny stools. So perhaps this all put together made her cry a bit then.
I never knew dogs need massage :) !!!
