wispa is due her last litter in 3 week, then when the puppie have gone to their new homes she going to be spayed.end of her breeding progamme plus one less bitch not to come into season, but i still want to show her,but most bitches blow their coat and put one weight,

i have hear that  vets can leave in one ovary in to help keep the coat and the weight in control.but take the rest away so she dose not come in season,

have any one elis hear this,

i cannot see why the vet cannot do it, i  of one at 29 had a hysterectomy the dr keep a ovary in,to keep the homones working,to work the body in harmory, but at the same time had every thing taken away and i cannot fall pregnant,

so why cant the vet do this with bitches to keep their coat good,

terri

Hi Terri,
If even a tiny bit of ovarian tissue is left (not even a whole ovary) the bitch will still come into season as before, but without the bleeding. Dogs will still want to mate her and she will still be willing. This happened to a friend's bitch who had to have repeat surgery to remove the remaining tiny scrap of tissue. After that she was fine.

I've know a number of cockers who've had their uterus removed but left the ovaries.  They've kept their figure and maintained a decent coat!

I had to have my Champion Beardie spayed & she never changed her coat texture etc & she went on to be shown with success, in fact within weeks of being spayed she went BIS

She actually had a better coat after being spayed & did not drop it so severely as she did before being spayed, nor did she gain any wieght

When she finally retired from the ring 6 years after being spayed she still had the correct harsh coat that the breed often nowadays doesn't have

My Sibe girl was spayed not too long ago and hasn't had many side effects. Her coat is as beautiful as ever, I believe it to be better than before she was spayed. I do think though that she has put on a little weight, but her being a Siberian husky, lots of exercise has helped that and she is now a wonderful, perfect girl. :)

It's the longterm effects that matter more, sibeluver03! Problems caused by hormonal imbalance (just as in humans) may not manifest themselves for years ...
