Is it worth taking dogs to the vets if they have Kennel cough or just let it take its course ?

I would reccomend taking them to the vets, as a precaution against secondary infections, a lot of vets would prescribe anti-biotics. A woman I know, recently lost her dog, aged just 10 months, due to a secondary infection following kennel cough.

If you're going to take a dog with kennel cough to the Vets, PLEASE leave it in the car and take all possible precautions - spray with Parvocide etc - or as an air borne virus, every sick dog at the Vets will stand a chance of being infected!!
It's a bit like going to the doctor with an ingrowing toenail and coming home with 'flu!!!

Seeing as mine is confined to the house now with Kennel cough i can only pass on what my vet said yesterday and that was if your dog is strong and healthy then the dog can withstand the infection and get through it (but i wouldn't take that risk of secondary infection she means too much to me) but please don't take it out as like mine who contracted the infection during a fleeting visit with another dog, I have had to split my girl from her puppy pal as he couldn't possibly fight it off like she can.
And this is causing great distress to the pair of them being seperated. :(

when my litter had it mum had it as well, but i had 4 other dogs that had to kept away from her,two of them got it but the other two didnt,

the hard think was i could not keep mum away from the puppies they were only 12 days old when they went down with it bye the 4week 6 had to pts beacuse of secondary infection, which i will not go into to upsetting even now, knowing that kc doing it rounds again and wispa is 6 weeks in whelp i hope history not going to repeart it self,

i would not want any one elis to go through what i did,

so beware of kc  it can kill.
