Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Homeopathic Wormer
- By Guest [gb] Date 29.04.04 18:26 UTC
Im considering trying a homeopathic wormer. Its very cost effective, enough to treat 4 dogs over 12 months at £10.
Is there anyone who uses them and if so are they effective? I dont want to switch to this and have a huge bout of worms on my hands lol.
Any information would be gratefully recieved.
Thank-you in advance.

Hi Beth,
Our 2 farm cats had problems with worms, I didn't see many worms but they were always a bit scrawny despite being well fed and regularly wormed (tapeworms can be passed on from the prey they catch). When I switched to a homeopathic wormer I saw a big difference in the them. For the first time they looked well fleshed, even my hubby noticed :D  Probably the only way to tell if the wormer was effective would have been to have faecal samples tested before and after but I shall certainly be sticking with them. I use homeopathy a lot and have seen some great results over the years, it's literally been a life saver on the farm, saving animals the vet has given up on.

Hi Kath

What is the name of the homeopathic wormer that you use?  I'd be very interested in giving it a try :)

Many thanks

Hi Lesley,

I get most of my stuff for the animals from Crossgates Farm (the wormers are no's 89 and 90 on here.. http://www.crossgatesfarm.co.uk/pages/remedies/remedies.html ) as they do them in spray form which I find easier than tablets for the cats and cows (the cats actually hate the spray but I spray their food as it's easier than giving them tablets) The dog is fine with the spray although she's OK with tablets too. They do tablets at Crossgates but I'm not sure how their price compares to other places but this tells you the price and approximately how many doses in each bottle..

The wormer for the dog is labelled "Nos BIM (some sort of nosode I think) and Abrotanum 2x"  but I haven't used it yet so can't say how good that is. The instructions for that are 3 doses a day for 7-10 days and Crossgates advised me to follow up with Calc Carb 200c 1 a week for 4 weeks. I've done some reading up since I bought them and the Abrotanum is recommended for roundworms (same dosage but 2x potency for older dogs and 3x for puppies) and the Calc Carb at 200c for tapeworms (though I've read this may only work as a preventative by making the animal less susceptible and that a chemical wormer may be needed first if tapeworms are a problem).

The wormer for the cats was different (a mixture of 7 remedies)...twice daily for 30 days!! thanks heavens I didn't have to struggle with the tablets :D

Many thanks for the links and taking the trouble to give me all the info Kath :) I shall give it a try as I really would like to get away from giving them a chemical wormer every three months :)

Very interesting about the wormers. I give my dogs kennel cough tablets homeopathically and touch wood they have been fine for two years now despite an outbreak two years running. :)
