Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Which fruits?

I have just discovered that Oscar adores pears.  He's not keen on apple or orange.  Not tried him with banana or pineapple.  Anyone had any good results with other fruits?

Mine get anything and everything; might be best to keep away from grapes though!

my lab loves fruit, the only fruit ive heard is a problem are grapes as Tohme says, Toby loves bananas including the skin,
when i have a pear/apple Toby waits for the core, nothing gets wasted in our house

Hi Tohme, You say your dogs get everything so I guess that includes oranges?(mine won't eat orange) I understand the vitamin c content in fruit helps prevents dog  pee staining the grass brown, have you noticed this? :-)

Great if thats true Toby can have lots of oranges :D

Mine aren't keen on citrus fruit.  A lot of dogs are not, hence the success of the citronella spray collars! I have never heard of Vitamin C preventing browning of grass.  I have heard that giving tomatoe puree, juice etc in the food daily can help with this.

I would not notice if it did, as I have gravel :D

You also have to be careful with apples, the seeds are poisonous to dogs!

Apple seeds &
Apple pips seeds Varied Toxic Effects. The plant is cyanogenic

Apple pips are also toxic to humans, remember!

>> Apple pips  are poison<<Really...I did not know that is it just uncooked ones? What about the ones in crab apple jelly and cider? :-P

Apple pips contain cyanide (I think it's cyanide anyway) which is fine (for humans) in small quantities, such as those from one apple. There was a newspaper report some years ago of a bloke who liked apple pips so much that he saved them up to have a proper feast of them. The cupful was enough to kill him.

You would have to eat a hell of a lot of apple pips to get poisoned; let's face it water can be toxic in a big enough quantity, so can carrots!
