Hello
A friend of mine has been diagnosed with depression and given a prescription for prozac.  She is a bit dubious about taking this although she has been assured that it is non-addictive and will help her.  Has anyone had any experience of this anti-depressant which they are willing to share and which I can pass on?
Thank you
Alex

I have used Prozac in the past and it isn't addictive as many are led to believe.  It didn't work for me but i know it has worked for others.

Thank you both - it looks as if there are no addictive problems then which was the main worry.
All the best

a whole new side effect was added to prozac's list because of me... i developed light sensitivity which wasn't on the warnings previously. but because of me it was reported to them and it's now on the info ! ooh claim to fame :D i went bright purple... it was soo embarassing...

Hi, I was put on Prozac a couple of years ago when I was suffering from acute depression, and it made me psychotic within 24 hours...a truly horrible experience... I was immediately taken off it, and eventually made a good recovery on another drug. In no way saying this to frighten you, but just to make you,or your friend, aware that for some people,  it's a life-saver, and for others it's hell. The doctors don't always admit that this can happen, but anyway, good luck to your friend, and I'm sure it'll be fine for them.

Can I recommend a book called 'Prozac Nation' by Elizabeth Wurtzel.  It makes for interesting reading but you must draw your own conclusions.
