hi
i'm looking to find information on puggles. i'd like to find out as much as possible, before deciding to home one. i'd also like to know if there are any breeders of puggles anywhere in uk. if any one knows any health facts at all it would be very much appreciated. i realise as a X breed it can be more beagle like, or poodle like, or a mix of both, so i have familiarized myself with both breeds with lots of research.

Sorry Guest never heard of it? Puggles?   Is it like a Danger?

Danger cross between Great DANe and GERman Shepherd. Sorry made that up.  You could try some of your local rescue centres there are usually lots of crossesthere

From reading the question I would assume it is a cross between a poodle and a Beagle

Hello guest, this is probably not the best place to get accepable advice on the cross breed you are interesed in. Breeders do not breed cross breeds, puppy farmers do. There are people here that have cross breed dogs, usually from rescue centres, but nobody here encourages the deliberate breeding of cross breed puppies. Therefor you are unlikely to find anybody here that will know of the whereabouts of a puppy like you describe.

Hi guys,

A Puggle is a cross between a female beagle and a male pug-( its a 'new' cross from the states apparently) Why on earth someone would want to cross such different breeds is beyond me!!

Scary thought though, one of the websites that is offering Puggles in the USA is also offering miniature boxers, and Boston terriers x Bassets as well.

Ali :(

The only correct puggle in my eyes is a baby echidna (actually called a puggle!)

I recently lost my dog Alex who was a yellow lab and I was really missing having a dog so after a few visits to my local shelter I fell in love with my new pup who is a puggle( i had never heard of such a dog befor) well let me just say that it was the best decision i have made in a long time....he is just the sweetest cutest little guy and very smart and friendly and just loves everyone including all other animals...I think if anyone wants a puggle they should get one...youll be happy you did :-)

Thing is being a cross he will be unique and his littermates may havew been quite differenet inheriting different traits from the parent breeds perhaps the worst traits of both breeds.

Nothing against crossbreeds that happen by accident, but definately agains their deliberate breeding from sub standard purebrees (else why would they not breed a good litter to keep the standard of the parent breed?

Breeding from dogs that are not the best examples of their breed and had all relevant health tests is irresponsible.  The reason many of these puppy farmers/millers do it is because they have poor purebred stock, so with first generation crosses they are banking of the faults not coming together which they surely would with their purebred specimins (but they sure would come out once they bred from the pups themselves, and the problems from both breeds).

Also it means they only need one stud dog to mate to all the different breed bitches.

So by all means rescue one of these often ompulse bought and soon cast off pups/dogs from a shelter, but do not line the pockets of disreputable money grabbing puppy exploiters.

Yes,  but look at where you got your Puggles from!!  A rescue centre, that says it all really doesn't it!

I'm glad that you were able to give the dog a home though.

Whislt I woud like to say well done in giving a home to a rescue, people should remember that the vast majority of crosses in rescue are breeding unknown - the staff often take a guess at what the parentage is, and sometimes even know the mothers breed (if any) but very rarely is the sire known, therfore the tag "puggle" may have been picked in this cas as someone thought this the likely parentage.  I am happy to hear you are pleased with your dog,  , but being the owner of Pugs, and having friends with Beagles, this makes a truly awful cross!  The independence and self-centered lap dog nature of the pug will not blend well with the hound mentality!  OF course, nothing can be predicted about crosses, they can get  all character traits from only one side or the other, or bits of both.  To deliberatley breed a cross like this is purely a money making scam.  Pugs are quite pricey, and not easy whelpers or known for big litters.  Beagles, on the other hand, frequently have big litters and tend to give birth without too many problems.  The puppy farmers have picked this cross so they can actually charge more than a pure bred beagle pup would be, majoring on the "Pug" part to jack up the price.  Use a sub-standard Pug male and just keeping the poor Beagle bitch popping out the crosses!  Not a recipe for well bred, healthy, well adjusted, long lived pets, whcih is what most puppy buyers should be looking for.
bye
Gwen
