Topic Dog Boards / Health / Dry Skin after Bathing

Hello

I know this topic has been posted before but I just wanted to check something - we bathed our 19 wk old dobe last night using puppy shampoo, and made sure he was rinsed and dried properly.  The only thing is he had lots of dandruff looking dead skin the next morning and we are worried we did something wrong.  We don't bathe him unnecessarily, and his coat (black/tan) is usually gleaming and shiny.  He is still on Beta puppy food chicken and rice which is a complete dry food given to us by the breeder, and he is also on a milky meal midday (due to finish this month).

We sprayed some dog tea tree spray this morning - which is good for moisturising dry skin etc but is there anything else we can do to ensure this doesn't happen.  He sometimes has tiny dry flakes (almost looks like dust) but he is growing so quickly he must be shedding skin too.  We groom him at least every other day, sometimes more.  I read about the evening primrose oil and piercing each end of the capsule to ensure it is absorbed - is this special evening primrose oil for dogs or is it just the usual capsules that we can take?  If this is recommended to use as a supplement what amount should we give our dog and should we continue it forever as a supplement or just stop when the condition is improved?  Will taking this have any other effects on him?

Thanks.

Mandy

I just take a little bit of vegetable or conola oil and rub it all over my dogs. Works like hand lotion does for us. I only do this after their bath, but since I switched them from Eukanuba to Nutro natural choice I haven't had the problem of dry flakey skin :) knock on wood :)
