My 7 month old Gordon Setter has been sick during the night for the past 3 nights - not sure what time, but somewhere between 11pm and 8 am - he's fine during the day and after meals, he's fed twice a day on Burns and is his usual happy if slightly dippy self!! he goes to bed quite happily, nothing has changed to stress him - he is not off his food and his poo is normal, I'm not sure how much or exactly what he brings up as I dont know if he's eating it back, but theres slight residue when I get up in the morning - its definately sick and not the other end. Anyone got any ideas???????

What time is his last meal?
Is it yellow (bile)? If so giving a few biscuits or v. small meal just before bedtime can sometimes help
He has his last meal around 6pm. Although its not really yellow, more of a beige ( ?!! ) but I was thinking along the bile line too as there is no solid matter, just staining. He usually goes to bed around 7.15, ( his choice - he takes himself off!! ) then we let him out for a pee around 11pm. Should I increase the amount he has for his tea, or give him a snack late on??? He is still currently on Burns mini bites, but when this sack is low I will start mixing the adult variety in, and change him over. Any further suggestions very much appreciated both of you - thanks!!

I would try giving him a bonio after his late-night pee. You may find that makes all the difference!
:)
Have been waiting for you Jeangenie.....I just love that tip ;)
(This was the 1st advice I gained from this site Deb...it works a treat and banished my worries overnight :D )

Agree with JG - give something just before bedtime :)

Hello
Just to say that when my when my boy was about 9 months old he had the same symptoms. He was waking up at about 5 o'clock every morning in a lot of distress and producing bile (appetite and poo were fine). We tried giving him a bit of supper but it didn't help. On the fouth day we took him to the vet and he was diagnosed as having a small ulcer or similar, probably caused by something he shouldn't have eaten (bit of wood etc) scratching on the way down and becoming very inflamed. He was on tablets for quite a while but is absolutely fine now.
I hope your pup has nothing wrong but don't let it go on too long before asking the vet, especially if it is bile that is being produced.

Thanks to all for your advice - knew you'd be good!!! but have confused the issue even more now, as I also contacted the nutritionists at Burns, spoke to a very helpful lady, it seems it is down to feeding too much!! she said that as he is now past his fastest growing phase to drop his quantity down - also he has been chewing on his feet and scratching alot, ( I know he doesnt have fleas ) this also is apparently a sign of too much food, and basically his body cant digest it and get rid of the toxins, so his system produces too much bile and it also causes irritation/dry skin - so yesterday I cut his quantities down for both meals - so so wierd but today I got up - no bile, and no scratching!! will see how he goes over next few days, and if it comes back will take him to the vet in case it is like the problems you had Val - but fingers crossed!! Thanks again peeps!!

Sounds like my Westie and since I've taken the advice given on this site, e.g. give him a biccie or two before he settles down, he's been fine.

Hopefully he's all cured now. I was going to mention that my boy was sick in the night 3 nights in a row. I discovered that he was throwing up a wet wipe and then eating it back down again to save for the following night - gross. I only found out by getting up really early and taking him for a walk and watched him throw it up on the park and then attempt to eat it again. Silly boy.
