My Mum just phoned to say she has seen a news report on Yahoo News, about an 18month old GSD who had a habit of collecting golf balls, which he brought back to his owner. However it seems not all the balls he 'found' were brought back,he ate several of them ?28! and ended up by not eating and then with vomiting blood,he had to be operated on to have his golf collection removed.Luckily the op was successful and he has recovered. The owner is keeping the balls, which were brown from stomach acid.
I don't know how old the story is or how much truth there is to it,but please all of you who let your dogs collect golf balls,be aware of the possible danger that they may swallow some with disastrous results :(

Thank you. I think that's considerate of you to post that warning.
I do take my dogs running on the golf course. The big dogs aren't allowed to have them. If I see them going for one, I tell them, "leave it" or if they pick them up, they're told to "drop it." My little Chihuahua mix likes them and he is allowed as he just looks so proud and carries it around for a while. It's too big for his little mouth so he couldn't swallow it. And the purebred Chi....it's way too big and heavy for her. LOL. She likes the little plugs that are lying on top where they aireated the soil. She tosses them up and around and spins and chases them. She can entertain herself with these things. A-w-w-w.....my little dumplings.
Thank you very much for putting that post up. My, that dog was weird eating sooo many of them!!! What a lucky dog to have survived.

This story is on BBC news website along with the story of a puppy that swallowed his choke chain and a dog that swallowed a knife!!!! All turned out well though.

Golf balls are also dangerous for dogs to chew they contain millions of elastic band type things and they are deadly to a dog
