I hope somebody can help me here, my neighbour has a yorkshire terrier bitch aged nearly 8 years old, not kc reg, just a pet. Now between her and her friend who has a boy yorkshire terrier, they are planning a litter from her next season. I have told her she is way too old for a first litter, but she won't take my word for it..........
Does anybody have any links to websites where she can look herself, I feel so sorry for the poor little dog, she will probably end up killing it!! How do you get a message across to somebody who doesn't want to listen??

Sadly you can't, try telling her you will report her for cruelty if she goes ahead, you can't of course, but it may work.

Its bad enough breeding yorkies when they are young but not at that age OMG
I lost a beloved yorkie she had a ruptured utereus I had no idea ,and whelping toy dogs is not easy at all its a specialist job.

Is there a Yorkie breeder on here that could send me details, including all the problems, that could possibly arise? Maybe she will read it and take note, her husband seemed to understand what I was saying, but she was so determined to have a litter I'm not sure anything would put her off. She also works fulltime, which I told her wouldn't be possible if she had a litter..................it makes me so angry :-(

Maybe get a hold of her vet and have them talk to her :( That may help, she could very easily lose her bitch because of her ignorance :( Very sorry for the dog :(

Hi There
Im an ex yorkie breeder, and i think what this lady is about to do is obviously due to her being very ignorant. If she was a true Dog Lover she would be looking at the downside not just the, maybe wanting a puppy related to the dog that has given her so much pleasure over the years. In persuing the decision to let her dog have a litter she could be jepodising the life of her eight year old companion.
There is a chance the dog will carry and produce a nice healthy litter, BUT a dog of this age has been at its best healthwise, its bone structure in the pelvic area will be well set, which could present problems when trying to give birth if they are not flexible and wont allow the whelp through, this is when you encounter, a cesaer, again not nice for a youngster, but even worse for an older dog, then the anisetic, again more dangerose the older you get. then producing and maintaining millk, and all the goodness that an older dog should be having for herself, all being passed onto the pups, yes pups will probly do very well at the expence of the mothers health.
If this lady has any emotional ties to her dog she will think again. I too feel angry at how people can do this sort of things to animals.
Eight years she should be ashamed of herself if she goes ahead.

I spoke to her again, I think I'm beginning to get on her nerves now. I told her if she is so determined to let her have a litter, take her to see the vet first, to get her completely checked out............she said she will, so fingers crossed she will listen to her vet and he will tell her what she needs to hear!

Hurray for you :)
Hopefully she does go :)

Just a quick update, I think the lady in question's vet gave her some shock treatment, she has now decided NOT to breed from her little dog.......phew!! :-)
