Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / What is James Wellbeloved food like?
- By HAMISH75 [gb] Date 22.04.04 19:19 UTC
Hi All

I am just wanting to find out what people on here think about the james wellbeloved food, my westie Hamish at the moment is on Eukanuba adult biscuit but since going up to the adult from puppy biscuit with the kibbles larger in size he does not seem to be interested in his food, at the moment i am softening them and he is eating them better but i am thinking of changing to a smaller biscuit. He went to the vet yesterday for his booster jab and i got his jaw checked incase there was anything wrong and he said that there was nothing wrong with his jaw just that he seems to be being awkward with what he is eating. I am wondering whether it is the size of the biscuit that is putting him off and i asked the vet what other biscuit brand with smaller kibbles would he advise he said that James Wellbeloved is a good brand, on looking at the different bags today they seem to do different flavours like turkey, lamb and another one which i could not remember, can anybody advise on what meat one is better and also how they have found this food perhaps if they have got westies themselves, i think he will be better with a smaller biscuit and am wanting to find a good make that is just as good as Eukanuba as i don't want to feed him a cheap biscuit that will cause him problems as i know that westies can suffer from skin problems.

Thanks
Helen and Hamish

Hi Helen
I have 2 Westie's and they both have Royal Canin.I think they like it because it is small and they happily crunch away on it. I did try them on the James welbeloved but they were leaving it. Another one I tried and they liked(not as much as Royal Canin though)was Arden Grange, though the bisciut is bigger than the Royal Canin. In the R C I get mini adult, mini sensible (for fussie eaters) has a westie on the front of that one, Mmmm say no more!!! and the 3rd one I get mini mature. As I say, they like the Royal Canin, and happily munch away on the small pieces. It is expensive though, but I don't mind. They never waste any, and I'd sooner get them that and eat it all, than get a cheaper one and be throwing it away!!! must say as well, that I always add mince, tuna or chicken, small amount. Hope this helps.

The JWB puppy kibble is tiny little biscuits - Millie who would only eat Pedigree wetted down, took to the dry biscuits instantly, probably because they are so small.

However, just recently graduated to JWB adult and the biscuits are HUGE (well in comparison ;-) ).  You might want to consider this fact.

Hi,

I feed all my Golden Retrievers JWB and the pup on puppy.I'm delighted with the results they all have super coats lookk fit and healthy plenty of get and go.
They also poo less and it doesn't seem to smell which is an added bonus.
Obviously what works for some may not work for others,Royal Canin also has good reports.
The pup was eating Pedigree Professional just went off it so put him on JWB puppy
hes not bored with it and clears his bowl everytime.

Hi, I've had good results with JWB.  We are on adult maintenance lamb - he loves this mixed with a little hot water to release the gravy.  The lamb kibble is much smaller than the duck. We have tried the duck but strangely I thought he was a little hyper after it.  Oscar didn't like the turkey as much as the lamb and I can't remember the size of the turkey kibble.

I read somewhere that JWB was being taken over by another company..PPfoods I think? If so beware because when a company is taken over they sometimes change the formula without informing the users.I found this to my cost some years ago when the formula for Eucanuba changed (ingredients on the bag remained the same for some months) and my dog develped various alergy problems. Having tried various foods over the years I recently changed my now elderly dog to Burns lamb/rice and venison/rice with great results..skin problems gone, fresh breath and she is much more allert.

Our two (whippet and whippet-mix) have it for their morning meal.  The pellets are a nice size - quite small (they do another one for large breed with HUGE pellets).  They LOVE it and are doing very well on it.  The third variety is Duck btw.  Our two swap between the Turkey and the Lamb.
