Has anyone tried this? My girl is fed Burns but I am not having much success in getting her to shed the extra pounds following her second litter. She is an excellent converter of her food and so does not get much at the best of times, but seems to be always hungry since reducing the amounts fed to help her lose the weight.

THe only way to lose weight is to decrease input and increase output. Why do you not just feed her less and if she feels empty fill her up with veggies that you can pulp, avoid peas, carrots and corn as they are high in sugar.

She already has plenty of veggies.

Hi Fillis, think the only way is to cut the food down, only consolation is that it is easier to get weight off a dog than it is off yourself, she says with feeling.
PS nice to met you yesterday.
I would stay with the same amount of food, seeing as she is still hungry and up her excercise, how much excercise does she get daily? For comparison,my shih-tzu's get 1 1/2 hours per day.

Hi Fillis,
I'm very interested to see others comments about this. My Labrador retriever is 19 months old and I am really struggling to keep her weight down. She too is on Burns and I've been considering giving her the High Oats. I feel so sorry for her as she has less than 100g of Burns food twice a day, which seems so little compared to what most Labs eat. She does have plenty of exercise too. I just wish I knew the answer to this. I've only had Poppy since she was 9 and a half months old and she's always had this weight problem. I'm very happy with Burns food but I do find Poppy is always hungry, even if I bulk the food up with veg. By the way, could anyone tell me any veg that dogs should not have? Thanks.
Hope someone has some answers for you (and for me :-)
Perhaps you could post again if you do switch to High Oats. (Burns did tell me to use half and half, High Oats and Chicken and rice.Other than that to do as we have been, cut back on the food and give veg with it).
Best wishes,
Val :-)

Apart from onions there is nothing that you cannot give a dog in moderation; I personally do not feed potatoes.
If your dog has a weight problem I would go careful on peas, carrots and corn as these are high in sugar!

watch for the protion contants in the food, high the protion less, food,
mine were on a leading brand and one of the fcr put weight on,the protine was 27,switch to another brand the protine was 24.she lost her weigth ,
if it a bitch the weight will go on just for a season untill poss 8 weight after.both post above are on bitches.weight,i never had a problem with my males just my bitches.
