Mari

Petra our blue merle collie is around a year old she was a rescue dog so we don't know exactly her age. Mother being her and son/daughter being one of her pups.

Owner we spoke to said that they can have a bond which casues behavoural problems, mother being overprotective of pup even as it growns up and that in general he wouldn't recommend it!

We would be happy to buy another pup but it seems nicer for her to have and keep one of her own. Maybe this is just my own maternal instinct.;-)

right have you now . well when collie is old enough you can breed from her . and keeping a puppy is still no problem as most breeders keep a puppy for them selves. Dont have a clue why you would be advised not to keep one. Before you take the breeding option please take a look at (leigh will give A LINK )LETS TALK BREEDING. It was compiled and put together by Sierra it is excellent and will give you a greater insight to breeding. best wishes mari

Mari, thanks for the positive feedback. If anyone has trouble accessing the site or getting the URL link, please email me at sierra.milton@ntlworld.com and I'll send it right out. Over the next few weeks the site will take on a new look as my website guru has a go at making things all pretty! LOL -- we have a great deal, I take her to lunch, give her the written stuff and an idea of how I want it to look and she makes it happen!!! Gosh, I love talented friends!

Gillian Petra is a Border Collie.

Update on our current thinking is that after reading through Lets Talk Breeding (Thanks again Mari, Sleep well?) and also some previous postings (Gillian yours included) we were thinking of breeding petra for the wrong reasons. We would be better getting in touch with rescue centres and looking for a youngster in need of a new home.

Minds are pretty much made up although the kids are a bit disappointed (that'll have passed when they wake up in the morn!!)

So next step will be finding more about rescue centres. We were at our local one today and could quite easily have come home with a white collie with tan patches. Beautiful dog! However it was already reserved, probably a good job as we need more time to work on Petras nippiness with other dogs before bringing one home permanently. (any suggestions or comments on this would be welcome) Dog training being attended once a week at the mo. purley for socialising, this should go some way to help.

Catch you later
