Just been to toneing tables and one of the ladies there has a 6 month old black lab, have'nt seen her for a couple of weeks and she was telling me they were going to take there dog for intense training, they had to go and meet this man, they didnt realize it was going to cost them £25 to meet him for an hour to show them how he trained the dogs, this man has working gun dogs of his own and trains police and army dogs he told them, well they were shocked he told the dog to sit and because she wouldnt he picked the dog up off the floor by the scruff of its neck and threw it to the ground, he screamed at the dog the dog ran away from him so he cornered it grabbed its ear and pulled its ear, he said if your dog barks at you kick it, they left in total shock, the man takes the dog for a whole month to train it, they said no way, she said he bought one of his own dogs out to show them and yes it was very good did everything he wanted but it wouldnt dare not,
Is this the way the police/army dogs are all trained, i hope not.

Dear god Id like to grab him and kick him and pull this pillocks ears. Let me have your dog for a month and Ille will beat it so it dare not do anything but my bidding.
As far as I know police trainers don't beat thier dogs, a freind of mine helped train his boxer because she was totally out of control. He was very gentle but firm. Not an aggressive hand was ever raised.

No dog is ever that bad that it needs a beating! that silly man needs someone to throw him across a room and make him sit and shut up! I too hope Police dogs arent trained this way!
Pleased to hear that Emma, the next day the dog was very withdrawn and had the runs, but its ok now thank god.

Police dogs used to be taught by "the book" issued by the Home Office which is still around. A few forces still use this, a lot more have learned from civilian trainers and use more enlightened methods. Also some of the dinosaurs who were in charge of training are now retired/ing and therefore new ideas are more widespread than they used to be.
You will find that in most Police forces/MoD establishments positive reinforcement is being used as it has been found to be more beneficial for all concerned.
A bit similar to the old North Wind v The Sun story where the two made a bet on who could get a man to take his coat off quicker............. a classic demonstration of how force creates resistance! :D
This demonstrates why one should ALWAYS attend classes without a dog to observe methods prior to allowing your dog to be placed in this position!
Also I am sure they verified his credentials prior to meeting him and got references...............................
Just because someone SAYS they do something does not necessarily make it so!
Whilst I do not condone the "methods" of this man at all, everyone must take responsibility for the choices they make, and ensure that they are "informed" ones............................................

Imagine though if they hadn't taken their dog to meet this "trainer". After demonstrating how well "trained" his own dogs were, would he have told them that in order to train the dogs he beat the s*** out of them and terrorized them until they did obey? Probably that wording wouldn't have been used and most people wouldn't imagine or believe his treatment of the dog without witnessing it. In this case I think they've had a lucky escape :(
My daughters friends mother is supposed to be a "qualified dog trainer" ;) and yet she (friend) was amazed that my bedlington obeyed us without being shouted at or hit  The company her mum works for advertises on the net as being able to train any dog from anywhere in the country in six weeks (residential) but having known one of the dogs they are supposed to have trained I wouldn't waste my dog or my money. Sadly these outdated methods are still around and used by ignorant or sadistic people :(
I hope he has been reported for gross cruelty.
