Hello everyone
As you will probably have noticed one of my bitches has had pups
but while all this has been going on
I have been looking at my 16 month old tri colour bitches pedigree
When I purchased her at age 9 week I ordered an enhansed 5 generation one
which doesn't show the parents colour but she has a dozen champions in it
We were given a copy of the third generation pedigree with her KC papers
by the breeder and on this are the parents colours
This is the first time I have looked at it because i had this other one
over the past year i have been reading up on cavaliers and in all the books it quite clearly states blenheim mum and blenheim dad make blenheim pups only regardless of the grandparents
I have been in touch with the Kennel club who gave me another telephone no of the cavalier club
she said there is something odd definatley and gave me the stud dog owners tel no
who also said there is someting odd
i want her to have pups when she is around 2
how would you approach this situation with the breeder as all the pups we say were tri and the dog we were shown as mum was tri not blenheim

Hi, why not just ring the breeders, and politely explain your query? it could be something as simple as they wrote the wrong colour down on the pedigree. And whilst colour genetics does gives us hard and fast rules, like Blenheim/Blenheim always produces Blenheim, you do occassionally (and I am not just talking Cavaliers) get anomolies and quirks to every rule. For instance, once, years ago when I had Cavaliers, I bred a Blenheim pup with 1 black ear!. The hassles I had trying to discover what he should be registered as had to be seen to be believed!
Throwbacks adn such sometime occur which flout all the rules!

if you want to get in touch with me i may be able to help i have been researching cavalier pedigrees and genetics for a few years now .this by no means makes me an expert (definatly not) but am willing to help if you require

Hi Jannie,
Sorry, I'm probably missing something here, but you say above that <<the dog we were shown as mum was tri not blenheim>> - so surely the dad could carry the tri gene and tri pups would be possible?
Or am I misunderstanding?

Hi Brihow, if I am reading the post correctly, it is the point the mum was tri which is causing the worry - both her parents being shown on the pedigree as Blenheim.
bye

Hi, by the sounds of it, you have Cavies? They are really lovely dogs! I ave had 4 bitches. 3 tri and 1 blenheim. They are loving dogs aren' they? How are the pups now? I really want another. We have got a Staffie pup, 12 weeks old.
I bet the pups are getting big now.
Our 2nd bitch had 6 pups. A mixture of both tri and blenheim. I would definately do it again.
Also, the difference....Calivier King Charles Spaniel & King Charles Spaniel??
Can anyone answer this?
Thank you, Ashleigh

The main difference is the head. King Charles have short muzzles (flat faces) and are far less common than Cavaliers. Also King Charles are customarily docked, though many now keep their tails on.
There are other more subtle differences too.

Thank you brainless. Although, I shouldn't really call you brainless! I had Caliviers. Aren't they lovely dogs! and a great temperament!
