Topic Dog Boards / Health / Hayfever?

Morning.

I've searched through previous threads but can't find any matches - my choc lab has had a clearish discharge from his eyes for as long as I can remember.  He's been to the vets and they didn't show any concern about it as there's no green/yellow tinge to it.  It's like the 'sleepy eye' stuff we all get in a morning but it regrows during the day, it's just a little bit but I was thinking it might be to do with hayfever as it's worse when he's been running through fields and so on.

I remember someone suggested anti-histamines but I wouldn't know how much to give him to see if this cleared it.  He weighs about 4 stone and is 1 year old.

Thanks in advance for your advice

Could be that your dogs eyes are a little 'slack' by that I mean that the eye socket and the upper and particularly the lower lids do not fit closely to the eyeball, allowing dust to enter the eye and cause the eye to produce a substance to help lubricate the eye and reduce damage. You will notice that dogs who do sometimes have slack eyes, Sussex Spaniels and Newfies come to mind, always have a certain amount to sleepy dust at the corner of the eye. To have such slack eyes is a fault and not desirable but it is not a problem to the dog.
