My dog pup is 5½mths old and approx the same in weight although he is not fat but has huge bone, his ears are still not erect (which I am really worried about as I have bought him to show!) will these come up also his coat is really  thick is this normal, I already have a mal bitch which is wooly coated but his coat is totally different.  Help anybody!  And yes I have been in touch with his breeder who has offered me a replacement pup, sorry no way he is now part of my family floppy ears or not!

I do not think that a mals coat should be "woolly"in appearance. A woolly undercoat does not mean the outer  coat

The breed standard states "Thick, coarse guard coat, not long and soft. Dense undercoat, from 2.5-5 cms (1-2 ins) in depth, oily and woolly. Coarse guard coat stands out, with thick fur around neck. Guard coat varies in length as does undercoat, but in general coat of medium length along sides of body, increasing somewhat around shoulders and neck, down back and over croup, as well as in breeching and plume"

There is still time for his ears to come up as he will still be teething

Is the bitch spayed?

The pups ears should come up with age but do massage them into the correct position to keep them!  they should have a thick coat but depends on what type of thick.  Its hard to tell without looking and feeling!

Hi,

I have a soft coated Malamute.  He is not a wooly but he does have a softer coat than his siblings.  His brother is a show dog and his ears took a while to become erect but it did happen eventually!  His dad was Canadian champion a few years back!
