I have noticed that my year old retriever bitch has some clear discharge (it doesn't smell.). She has not yet had a season, so i was wondering if this is a signal. I remember my other bitch had a discharge before her seasons started last year, so i am not unduly worried, but should i make a habit of checking her everyday now?

My lab girl Luna (1 year april 5. 2004) is having her season now. I didn't notice any clear discharge.

She was checked by a vet!! the day before it started. We were at the vet for another reason, but I asked him to check for me, because she had started peeing more and a couple of days earlier, the dogs at training were very interested in her.

The vet said: oh theres nothing, she is probably just late developing, so even a trained eye didn't spot it! The day she started I noticed a few bloodspots - she didn't start swelling until she had bled a day or two.

But perhaps its time for your girl. And I would keep an eye on her.
