i dont know why he has everything and has all my love, ive had him since a puppy.
He justs hates me cuddling him, or anything!

Is it just the breed?? (cairn terrier)

because i do everything for him, and i dont get any affection back!
He just sleeps on the sofa all day, i get the impression he wouldnt give a damm if i wasnt there!

Some dogs are more independent than others, but it may also be that you are trying to hard to be nice to him ;)

Maybe look up the " nothing in life is free" programme, as applied sensibly it may help to get him to think of you differently.

Some dogs love gentle cudles or strokes, but HATE cuddle the way humans do it to them - like a bear hug. It is not natural for a dog and so they do tend to "grin and bear it" very often.

If mine is being naughty I threaten her with a cuddle   She hates them, but likes to be stroked and isn't adverse to snuggling up on our bed with us given a chance :D

Some dogs are just like that, I agree with Lindsay it is not natural for a dog and I have seen them grin and bear it sometimes.

We once had a girl who would have cuddles or stokes unless it she wanted it.  she never came on the sofa for a cuddle and rarely even came in the living room if everyone was there!!!

got 2 other bitches who are on your laps demanding cuddles before you have even sat down!!!

Dogs are similar to humans, like all animals, everyone is different, some just don't like being touched and don't apprechiate things in life, others love to be cuddled, played with and given lots of attention!

Bradley used to love cuddles.  All he wanted to do was sit on my lap (28Kilos of Boxer) and cuddle. This was 98% of the time,  god boys are so demanding.

Do you play plenty of fun games with him? do you go on lots of walks together,do you give him treats, but make him sit before giving them? He sounds bored to me?Just a guess.????
What is your daily routine with him?

I know something that REALLY, REALLY increases the bond you and your dog can have. Go to an obedience class and then to an agility class. Agility is all fun and mastering those obstacles gives a dog self confidence. It's a job and it's fun and it's something you do as a team, the two of you. He'll look up to you for direction while learning to focus on you and I think you'll see a difference. I highly recommend doing things with your dog. Classes are great fun for both and terrific socialization for your dog and you. I'm still hoping to find the man of my dreams at one of these classes. LOL. Just kidding. Well....1/2 kidding.

Some dogs are just not cuddly!! Its the way they are.I have one dog who wants to be stroked constantly...loves being touched but if you but your arms round him for a cuddle he goes all stiff and 'uncomfortable'...its something he just doesn't like!!
I have another who is exactly like the posters dog...he sleeps in the back room all day and couldn't care less if I was in or not. I can call him for a stroke and he just looks at me as if to say 'bother someone else will you'.

Don't forget that we (humans) are primates (monkeys ;-)) and its natural for us to cuddle and touch - have you ever seen 'Monkey Business' or similar tv programme about chimps for example?  They are constantly, hugging, cuddling, grooming, touching each other, its what primates do.  Wolves however have limited body contact and don't 'do' the whole touching thing.

Its not necessarily a terrier thing but maybe a Cairn terrier thing?  (don't know, I don't know any Cairn terriers). My sister's Westie is a NIGHTMARE for wanting constant 'touching' - he has to be being stroked, scratched or tickled somewhere on his body constantly.  If he's sitting down then he must be scratched.  This drives me MAD, i get fed up after about 5 minutes with arm ache but he doesn't let you stop, and I must say this was one thing that I was NOT looking forward to, having my own dog.  (have read since in a breed description, that this is typical of a Westie though!! Constant attention!).

I'm so glad we chose a Scottie!  If I start trying to cuddle, stroke Millie she usually gets up and moves to the other end of the settee.  She does like a scratch from time to time, but definately doesn't like to be fussed over - I can cuddle her for 5 minutes and then she's had enough which suits us both!  But she definately loves me (she's sitting here next to me whining because I'm looking at the pc screen and not her and not putting her on my lap on demand!) so I wouldn't worry that yours doesn't love you:-)

:D @ Jess!
One of my shih-tzu's loves her belly being rubbed, she will sit and stare at me,i have got to the point that i dont want to make eye contact with her from across the room coz as soon as i look at her,she will flip over onto her back and await her belly rub,so whatever i'm  doing will have to wait as i get up and rub that belly until my arm goes numb and i can rub no more ;)

I went to my sisters yesterday and did a whole 'half hour shift' of rubbing his belly.  I was very proud of myself.  Then he kept on so I told him to bugger off and go and pester his mum :-D

Elkhound well most Elkhounds are that way Archer, they do like attention but on their terms and can be pests if they want your attention but if you want them when they wish to be doing something else, well you can go hang, unless of course you are offering food as well as your affection.
