You only need a crate if you have more than one dog or you would not leave the dog in the car whilst you go to the toilet. Having said that it is nice if you want to shop or go to eat but I would get your dog used to a cage at home before using it at a show. Do a proper groom at home the day before so that you only need take the sort of tools you need for last moment spit and polish. You can take a table but you will have to put it up in the area that is designated for grooming, not ringside. OK I know people do but it is not allowed, it makes you unpopular with other breeds trying to get in and out of the ring and you could well be told to move it.

Don't foget water for the dog and a drink for your self, and a chair.

I normally take everything but the kitchen sink and then regret that I didn't take that too :D

Ok it really depends also on what type of show you are doing ie Champ/Open etc.

You should have a bag which is big enough to take the following
dogs grooming kit, (Brushes, Scissors etc)
show lead & collar or some people have the all in one type of collar and lead, plus a spare.
Pooh sacks (I use nappy sacks)
water bowl, and water for dog.
Dry shampoo or no-rinse shampoo (incase your dog gets dirty whilst at show)
A blanket for your dog to lie on (which can be used on benches at champ shows or in cage)
A benching chain or cage (Champ show for benching chain/cage - Open show for cage)
Paw wax (incase of slippery floors, don't know if little dogs have the same problems as the big ones on slippery floors)
A towel to dry your dog.
Titbits/treats & the bag you put them in if you use those for your dog.
Some do bring their grooming tables/trolleys.

For the human -
Folding chair/seat
Coat or anorak
Purse/Mobile phone/Breakdown Membership cards etc
Packed Lunch & drink (Often cheaper than buying at the venue)
Small First Aid Kit - Inc headache tablets, Piriton, indigestion tablets, plasters & for women their necessary items just incase!
Pens - to mark catalogues up
Show ring clips/Armband for ring number
Passes (champ Show) /Proof of postage card & schedule
Route planner map to venue - if needed
Show jacket
Sensible comfy shoes to wear for the whole day
Yourself , a supportive friend/family member and don't forget the dog you've entered too :)

Oooh and if you've a long way to travel check your car levels (Oil/Water/Fuel/Tyres -Air) before you go,
Check to make sure that you check the schedule to make sure you are going on the right day,
When judging begins etc as you'll be surprised how many people turn up on the wrong day or miss their
classes as they turn up late for the show!

I have a check list which is stuck to the fridge door, that way I hope not to forget anything before
I leave home.

Enjoy your day!

Most Cavalier people will take a crate to all shows even if they only have one dog,

Depending on how far the car park is from the ring If it's a long way I take my dogs in the vrate on the wheeled base(easier than trying to carry everything)

I take my full grooming kit which contains my bait bag, poo bags, bushes, combs(scissors not usually required as you are only supposed to trim the under fur on cavaliers & this should be done at home but they are in there anyway),ring cllip, show lead & collar, rescue remedy  etc

Bait is cooked chicken, water for the dogs

Dog first aid kit which is always in the car anyway

Would not suggest a benching chain for a cavalier

If you do not have a dry coat for your dog you should bath it a few days before the show to allow the coat to settle before the show then the night before just wash the whites & ears

Grooming tabls are the norm for Cavaliers

Moonmaiden,
As you can see from my 'call-name' I have Boxers so don't really know what Cav people
take to shows, hence why I said benching chain (Champ shows) doesn't really apply for small
dogs as they have cages but the bigger dogs do need them if not caged :)
Sounds like you take nearly everything but the kitchen sink too :D

Guest,

Take the dog.  You need the dog :)

I would add wet wipes/babyfresh to Moonmaidens list, especially if you have a Blenheim or Tri - invaluable for on the spot cleaning in case of any accidents!
bye Gwen

LOL Boxacrazy I take that too :)

Got a really big crate sent by mistake by the manufacturer so when I rang them to tell them they told me to keep it :O so I did room for both the dogs we take to Ch Shows & a lot of the gear(grooming box(metal tiered toolbox)Kool box)the rest is strapped to the top All I need is a nice strong good looking young man to move it ;) either that or get a motored one

We take parasols, crate fans, the small fold down table & folding chairs etc on the outsiide as well as a shopping trolley & change of clothes/shoes LOL Oh & I forgot the sun hats & reflective coats & now sun glasses for the dogs too(Cavaliers do suffer from very strong sun with thier eyes ;) & my two like to keep cool & look cool just in case a nice young girl dog should pass by(in their dreams)

Gwen thats part of my grooming box as standard not that two ever do anything away from home & they are boys :O
