Hi all,

I want to ask a question, please dont think im stupid :( although it probably is and i bet im the only one who doesnt know this but....

Why do Great danes (and maybe other breeds that i have not nothiced) in America have pointy up ears but in the UK they are floppy? Really sorry if this is a dumb question!

Cheers
Zoe.

In America they crop the ears, This is illegal in the UK. Hope this helps.

Guarding breeds have cropped ears to make them look, well more nasty but in the UK it is deemed as harmful to dogs, the ears are cropped soon after birth I think.

America still allow ears to be cropped.

Like said its guarding (working group) breeds such as boxers, dobes, danes etc

Because they crop their ears in some other countries (the operation was made illegal in this country over 100 years ago). When the pup is about 2 or 3 months old they cut off the floppy bit of the ear, stitch the sides, and tape stiffener to the ears for a few months till they stay up on their own.

Hi

Its also illegal to crop ears and cut the tails in Denmark.

And personally I like a rottie with tail more than one without!
