Can anybody tell me how accurate the test is?I had my bitches blood taken yesterday 13/4,within 2hrs the results showed that she was still pre-oestrus,today she swinging her tail all the way up and over and her vulva is squeezing and lifting,so wot do you guys think?and yes before anybody asks all health checks have been done,Julia

Hi

Some bitches will stand for a week or even more, and it is no real guide to actual ovulation.  My dog mated a bitch on days 11 and 13 who was really keen, and yet she missed.  As the owner had to travel quite a distance, she had the blood test done at the next season and it showed she wasn't ready until day 19.  A mating on that day produced a litter.  Without the blood test to guide us we would never have left it so late in the season.

Hello Julia
I have in the past had a bitch who always had clear seasons (no bleeding) blood tested and the two occasions she was mated she produced a litter of 4 pups.

I had my bitch tested on day 8 first and again on day 11.  The vet advised on day 11 that my bitch was extremely close to ovulation and in any day it would happen.  So I left it a couple of days and had her mated on day 13 and again on day 15.  Well after all that and a heck of a lot of traveling she missed.  I would however still recommend them but thats just my opinion, if I could of done it again I would of had her tested a 3rd time just to be 100% sure that ovulation had occured.  Good luck!!

I have the bitches come to my boys and admit the only testing I do is a smear for any possible infections, if she has one she doesn't get mated if all clear then the dogs are introduced when she starts to move her tail out the way.  I did try testing but found it to be very inaccurate and always thought it was because schippy bitches will stand from day 5 - 18 and still get in whelp, well mine do anyway lol.

I've never had a miss when the bitches have come to my boys but I insist on boarding them here from day 5 until we get a good mating, I also find my Pom who can't reach to mate a very good indicator of when the girls are ovulating.

i have had 2 bitches tested, although i think my boys (neutered!) are the best way to tell!!
it has worked both times tho so far, we had a bc litter of six in 2002, and this time my gr is 7 weeks gone, so looking good there too!
